HeartMate and HVAD
Three different support hearts are implanted in the Netherlands, the HeartMate II, the HeartMate 3 and the HVAD. The first two originate from the firm Thoratec. This firm has since been taken over by Abbott. The HVAD was developed by Heartware, hence the abbreviation of the name Heartware Ventricular Assist Device. The Heartware company has been taken over by Medtronics. Information about these LVADs is provided on this website.
