About the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic
With its widely recognized range of treatments, including all cardiac surgery procedures, from minimally invasive interventions to heart and lung transplants to ventricular devices and artificial hearts, the thoracic and cardiovascular surgery clinic is one of the largest centers of its kind worldwide, with a very high level of surgical experience.
The HDZ NRW Quality Report documents the large number of treatments performed by the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic and the high level of experience.

The clinic for thoracic and cardiovascular surgery is a leading partner in the expert network of the German Health Insurance (DKV), responsible for the specialist area of cardiac and thoracic surgery. Since 1984, more than 130,000 surgeries have been performed by our clinic, including more than 2,400 heart and heart-lung transplants, as well as more than 4,000 VAD and artificial heart implants.
The specialist clinic for thoracic and cardiovascular surgery has nine operating rooms. It also has four nursing units (including the luxury Tuscany unit) with a total of 190 beds, an intensive care unit, a transplant unit and a VAD unit for patients with artificial hearts and devices
